This can save your life.

.
This can save your life.
People are really stressed with what’s going on in the world.
I heard someone say that he believes we are all in a low state of trauma as a society.
I believe that was a wise observation.
It’s also one that can cost us our health and eventually our lives.
So what do we do about all of this?
Well luckily there is plenty we can do and an opportunity in all of it which is what a crisis provides when we are wise.
My client came in and was sharing how his blood pressure was up quite a bit, and he was heading to the doctor.
He’s older and I love him dearly.
I’ve been working with him on healthy habits, exercise and doing some coaching together.
He had never had a blood pressure problem before.
I asked if he was stressed and he shared, "Well wouldn’t you be with the markets taking a dive?"
He then went on to share how much money he lost.
Of course, we spoke about not looking at his finances right now, and he had stopped, but the news was another matter.
He said it was everywhere.
Now here’s the thing…when we spoke about turning the news off and taking a break, he said it would be too quiet in his house.
When I suggested to put a lighter channel on; he shared that he’s not interested in much else.  He said other things are boring to him.
His family had a different approach which is to take blood pressure medicine if it gets too high.
Taking blood pressure medicine is an answer but it doesn't solve the problem, and it may create more complications.
So, here’s a few thoughts about all of this…
My client isn’t undisciplined or ignorant. In fact, he’s brilliant. So, what’s going on here?
Very simply he’s stressed, and he isn’t thinking clearly. That’s what a low state of trauma does to us.
We know the right things to do but we can’t seem to get off the carousel to make another choice.
So, what can we do about what was shared here?
First take a diet from the news and I mean all forms of media even social media and YouTube. Although these things are informative, they stress us.
Be aware though this is no easy feat. We can be as addicted to media and information if not more than food or drugs.
What will you do to replace the stillness that takes over your life? Well first learn to get comfortable in it. It’s not stillness that created the problems in this world, but actually it’s absence.
Lastly, put your energy into what you love. I know most people don’t have a clue about what they love but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. The time away from the distractions will allow the space for your interests to return.
And that's the opportunity I see in stress. It can wake us up, if we listen to it, and send us to find the things we really love that's inside us all. (yes, everyone has this capacity!)
I know this isn’t an easy process and you might want to take a pill to ease any symptoms that are popping up. It really is a choice, and I honor whichever decision someone takes. I just needed to share because I care.
I certainly don’t have easy answers, but I love that there are answers and if we follow them then our lives will be better than we could ever have imagined.
