Take a step
One question I ask my coaching clients is:
What was your earliest memory?
It’s an important question.
My earliest memory was waiting on a step for my mom in Barbados.
My Mom sent myself and my sister there when my parents broke up and she didn’t have enough money to care for us.
I was about 4 years old, and I wanted my mom.
I sat on that step every day waiting for the postman to bring a letter from her.
I don’t remember any letters coming from my Mom and yet I still waited, hopeful something would change.
Nothing changed.
Little did I know that my answers would eventually come much later from the very thing I was sitting on.
Life is funny that way.
I learned that when I find myself, or see others, waiting for something, that’s just not coming, to stop waiting and not sit on the step of life but to take a step.
For instance, when I was trying to figure out my marriage…I took a step and read a book that helped me understand communication.
It was learning communication that helped me to listen in a new way and I was able to navigate through what the situation needed.
When my client got a diagnosis that she had 2 years to live… she took a step to come closer to her family and enjoy the life she had.
When Covid hit… instead of waiting for the economic downturn my client took a step to start a new business.
Another one invested in the market and doubled their money.
Instead of sitting waiting on the steps when something is taken away or seems hopeless the most empowering thing to do is to take a step.
This may seem like such a simple thing to do but don’t undermine it because of the simplicity of it.
And although 10,000 steps are recommended for health, I'm simply talking about taking one in a new direction.)
If you or someone you know needs help with taking a step for their health, relationships, finances or any life area reach out.
In the meantime, have fun taking steps!
Wishing you much love and joy!
Bert
