How to Have Amazing Relationships

The Absolute Power of Listening

He had an affair.

And came to me for coaching.

He wanted to repair his marriage.

And they hadn’t been intimate for years.

This is never an easy place to start.

When someone has had an affair and wants to rebuild, the road ahead is not simple.

It requires honesty—real honesty.

It requires hearing your partner’s pain without defending yourself.

It requires answering hard questions.

It requires self-reflection, responsibility, and creating brand-new patterns of relating.

It’s possible.

And when a couple commits to the work, not only can the relationship be repaired—it can become stronger than before.

My client is a perfect example of the power of listening.

He asked his wife to set aside time to talk.

Not to argue.

Not to fix anything.

Just to talk.

And when she talked, he listened.

He didn’t interrupt.

He didn’t correct her.

He didn’t defend himself.

He simply listened with his whole heart.

Every so often he paused to reflect back what he heard, just to make sure he understood.

He kept listening until she was fully, completely done.

Only then did he share what he needed to say.

And something incredible happened:

She listened too.

Not long after that one conversation—after years of distance—they were intimate again.

She invited him to be.

That’s the power of proper communication.

That’s the power of connection.

That’s the power of listening.

Why Listening Is So Powerful
So many couples come to me exhausted.

Tired of trying.

Feeling like they’ve done everything and nothing works.

And yet, the simplest things are often the most powerful.

And there is nothing simpler or more powerful than truly listening.

Have you ever had someone really listen to you?

I mean fully?

Without rushing you, interrupting you, or fixing you?

It feels good, doesn’t it?

It feels healing.

It feels connecting.

It feels like someone finally sees you.

If you want to improve your relationship, start with this:

Give your partner the gift of listening.

Just try it, and watch what happens.

And if you’d like support in building an incredible relationship—or finding someone worthy of one—reply to this email and we can talk.
